A “Girls” Weekend

After sharing 250 square feet with Martin and all of his manhood for a month, I was completely, and absolutely ready for a weekend of girls! This past weekend, I got my fill and then some of estrogen.

On Friday night, Martin decided to check out a new German social club, so with the house to myself, I was mentally prepared for a girl´s night in: me, myself, fat girl pants, bottle of wine and ice cream for dinner and a night of really bad TV. Unfortunately, Martin’s event was cancelled and he returned before I could even uncork the bottle of red. But we had a deal, and I had the house for the night, so instead of changing the plans, Martin joined my girl´s night… he put on his fat girl pants, grabbed a spoon and suffered through the 80’s classic, Pretty in Pink.

On Saturday night, Anna came into the city for our traditional girl’s night out of sushi, wine and the obligatory stop at HiFi (before they charge a cover of course). There is something about catching up over raw fish and cold sake that makes the even most basic gossip that much better.

And the weekend of women was perfectly wrapped up with an afternoon of bubbles and bingo with my mom on Sunday. Hosted by the Women’s Italian Society in North Beach, my mom and I spent the afternoon mingling with the local women both old and young (but mostly old), drinking champagne, eating a hearty Italian meal of antipasta, salad, spaghetti and meatballs, coffee and ice cream, all the while playing bingo…and losing. After 8 rounds and over 20 different chances, my mom and I only completed 1 bingo! But it didn’t matter, the bubbles were flowing and the food was great, so I call that a win.
