Cooking (and Baking) Again!

We have a kitchen again! After a marathon week and weekend of painting (Martin finally let me do something again… but only after a 10 minute tutorial and constant supervision) Martin installed the kitchen and floors! It took all morning to unpack the cabinets, followed by an afternoon of leveling the floor and installing the counter-tops.

And after I finished painting (there really were only 2 and half walls for me to work on) I set about doing what I could…specifically, cleaning up the packaging from the cabinets and kitchen appliances. I took the job so seriously that my internal Swiss took charge for a moment and bundled the cardboard in neat little packages.

We christened the kitchen the weekend before Thanksgiving with a homemade cake, 2 batches of cookies and a vegetable quiche from scratch. Between the baking and newly installed radiator, it was the warmest and most relaxing Sunday we have had in a while.

To be fair, the kitchen wasn’t completely done by Thanksgiving (and there are still a few items left to wrap up including buying a refrigerator and installing the remaining knobs), but those are just minor details. We are close enough!

I’m So Domestic

Martin lost the button on his work pants and I managed to sew it back on…No need to point out that the thread doesn’t match and I sewed it on backwards (Martin was kind enough to let me know already)!

A Trip to the ER

The house is coming together! The dry wall is up and painting will begin soon. Like all construction work though, we hit a “minor” set-back last week with a trip to the Emergency Room… but we are back on schedule!

Last Thursday, while cutting dry wall, Martin managed to also cut his finger. Unsure where to go or what to do, he frantically called me at work. Unfortunately I was in a meeting and didn’t get the message until 30 minutes later. Thankfully, Martin was able to wrap the wound, google the nearest hospital, get changed and make it to the ER on his own. Yes, my ever fashionable boyfriend felt the need to change out of his work clothes before heading out… I met him 45 minutes later at the hospictal but proved to be little help. Between the bloody bandage and the description of the accident, I had to excuse myself twice to avoid passing out and suffering my own injuries.

I somehow pulled it together long enough to clean up the crime scene that Martin had left behind at the house…looks like we might need an extra layer of primer before we paint.

Martin enjoying a hard earned beer...the day before the injury.

More photos to come!
