Yes, technically it is Jesus take the wheel, a fun song by Carrie Underwood, but when it comes to travel in Europe Martin take the wheel is more appropriate.
We spent the past week in Italy skiing with the Germans and as soon as we got out of the airport in Munich and into the rental car, I officially relaxed. And I think Martin did too. We were back on Martin's turf which meant Martin was officially in charge. Even better, that meant I no longer was… I relinquished control of providing driving directions, deciding where to eat, or what to do. When we are in Europe it is all Martin. And it felt so good.
Granted there wasn’t a lot of decisions to be made or questions to answer over the course of the week: we were staying in the same hotel as always which includes all meals, is walking distance to the cross country skiing loop and there is no obligation to do much else except eating and skiing (and maybe sleeping). I was so relaxed that a not so small part of me was ready to quit my job and move back to Europe to keep the magic going.
The entire week was absolutely perfect. As the kids highlighted each and every day, this is the best hotel in the entire world.
Eat: the amazing food including a five course dinner each night and a massive breakfast buffet every morning
Pray: to make it to the top of the hill on skis (which I did)!
Love: every moment with the family
